I'm not a gaming scholar or proponent, but I am a mother of gamers, and I read this entry with great interest. I believe in reaching students on a practical level. I couldn't pull this off in my classroom because I don't have the game savvy to do so, but I fully support it as a means to the end, and I think some of the tactics employed are really innovative and worth considering.

I would have to say that games and writing share the same concerns of knowing the audience and how to deploy one's talents to bring about some end. I wouldn't say that it's the only way to teach writing, but it seems like a decent coupling of an activity some students may already enjoy with a practice that they are learning about. In that regard, it doesn't really seem that different from playing a foreign language tag, or having a spelling bee. Just a whole lot more technical.

Good to see you the other day, and I wish that your panel had been given a prime-time slot. Too much important stuff was being discussed.
